OVERSEAS COMMITTEE

■ .LONDON", 26th January. A first meeting of the committee of the Overseas Section of the Fellowship pf the British Empire Exhibition has been held,, with Sir Hamnet H. Share m the chair-. Captain T. E. Donne Mr. W. J. Benson. Sir Ernest Birch' and the Lord Richard Nevill are other members of this committee. The object of the organisation is to submit the scheme of the Fellowship to the different Colon-* les and Dominions in such a way as to ensure the best possible response. Captain Donne .called attention to the importance of the committee aporoaching chambers of commerce in the IJominions and the committees which, had been established in the various towns to promote the interests of the Exhibition. He also advised that the secretary should obtain from.High Commissioners in Londonpermission' to place forms of apnlication. and literature with regard to theTellowsnip m the inquiry rooms and' libraries of the High Commissioners' offices and that steps should be taken to have forms of application placed on board the steamers coming from the Dominions to England. These recommendations were endorsed by the committee. Mr. Benson suggested that the assistance of all colonial banks should be obtained. Tlie chairman mentioned the fact that a suggestion had been made that enthusiastic friends of the Empire of adequate means might be induced to become responsible for a block of 5000 fellowships on tlie understanding that in doing so they were entitled to the immediate allotment of a scholarship of the value of £1000, such scholarship to be named after the person becoming so responsible and to be administered' i n accordance with his wishes. PROGRESS OF THE MOVEMENT. The big' task of organising the Fellowship of the British Empire Exhibition is making rapid progress. The Earl of Dunmore has the distinction of. being ! the .first V.C. to become a member. For the purposes of development, the country has been divided into proups. Lord Leifih (Lord.Lieutenant of Warwickshire) has become chairman of the provincial aroup, and Lieut.-Col. Hilder (formerly M.P. for South East Essex) chairman of the London group. At the moment the London group holds the records for members. The great banking and insurance companies in the city are enthusiastically supporting their Fellowship, and they are allowing their customers and shareholders to be circularised in its interests. Almost every post brings in to the Fellowship headquarters applications for batches or forms from companies whose directors and senior officials are anxious to support this new Imperial Brotherhood. Through the newly-formed women's section of the Exhibition, many of the important women's organisations nre arriving for large numbers of application forms. . . ' Lord Jellicoe is helping forwnrd the movement in Ken- Zealand. He has cabled to Rear-Admiral Sir H. Share who fouttht with him at Jutland, to secure his own enrolment.
