SPALLA SUCCUMBS TO FIRPO
KNOCKED OUT IN FOURTEENTH ROUND.

It was a knock-out blow with the. right to the jaw which laid Spalla flat on the canvas. !:/ Spalla fought gamely during "the later rounds, when Firpo was rushing, and successfully blocked many hard. rights. Spalla punished Firpo [ severely in in-fighting. The Argentinian was often hitting wildly, being so intent upon delivering a knock-out. Dur- | ing the early part of the fight Firpo used his left with little success.
After the fifth round Spalla took the offensive, and fought his best. . Firpo was staggered by a, right to'the jaw and knocked off his balance. Spalla followed up with his left, but slipped and fell. Both men were now down, with Spalla on top. In the eleventh Firpo slammed Spalla against the ropes with his left. The Italian saved .himself from falling by clutching the ropes .with both hands. The knock-out was delivered when Spalla was against the Topes in his own corner. . . .
