KING'S PLATE TO HARVEST KING,

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPIBIGHT.) MELBOURNE, Bth March. The weather was fine and cool for the final day of the Victoria Racing Club's Autumn Meeting. There was a good attendance. The going was fair. Spearfelt, trained^ by the ex-New Zealander, Vincent O'Neil, won the Gibson Cannichael Stake 3by a. narrow margin from the favourite, Metellus. Spearfelt cost 120 guineas as a yearling. There was . a great sprinting field out for the Leonard Stakes. In the run ■up the. straight, Quintus, on the outer rails, won comfortably from the favourite, Sonora. Both were prominent throughout. The winner cost 1800 guineas a fortnight ago. His owner, Mr. T. M. Burke, has now had eleven wins this season. Quintus is a candidate for the Doncaster. There was an exciting race for the King's Plate. Harvest King led all the way and won by a small margin after a great race from the home turn with The Rover. Harvest King has now won this race three years in succession. He is trained by L. M'Cann, who is only 22 years of age. J. Holt scored his first training success at the meeting in the Northcote Handicap. Benoni had a long lead in the early stages, but was beaten two furlongs from home. Englefield cost 1400 guineas in December. Since then he has won four races. Stonemarten, the winner of the Steeplechase, is trained by W. Finn, of Mordiailoo. G. Harrison rode Englefield and Easingwold.
