END OF CANTERBURY COMPETITION".

CHRISTCHURCH, 9th March. -Ihe. ninth round of the senior competition matches was concluded on Saturday by a victory over Linwood by Sydenham, who have now secured the championship for the season, for, although 'there is another round to play,' it cannot affect the result.

Championship points now are as follow:—Sydenham 18, West Christchurch 12, Riccarton 11, St. Albans 11, Lmwood 8, East Christchurch 3. St. Albans, with 482 for eight wickets, declared. West .Christchurch replied with 135 (R. C. Brunt 17, Talbot 22, Hayes 33). Sandman took seven -wicket's for 68, Cromb three for 17. In the second innings St. Albans had five wickets down For 138 (Woods not out 61, Crawford 32). St. Albans won on the first innings.

East Christchurch had made 361 in the first innings, arjd Riccarton responded with 414 for six wickets (Cargill 73, C. E. Guiney not out 148, Fuller 56, Bain 65, Powell 39). Blank took two wickets for 60.

The first day's play had given Sydenham a first innings lead of 94, and as Linwood only put on 104 in their second innings Sydenham were left with only 11 runs to get, and these they hit off without loss. In Linwood's innings Read made 40 and Jones 16. Cunningham took four wickets for 44, M'Ewin throe for 42.
