(BI TBLEQBAPH.— SPECIAL 10 THB POST.) x PALMERSTON N.,-This Day. > ■ At a meeting of the General Committee of the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Mr. J. Balsillie moved as follows: "An honorary life- ' member of the committee shall not be eligible to hold office as president, vicepresident, treasurer, or chairman of any standing sub-committee unless he forfeits his honorary appointment and seeks election to the committee by ballot in the>rdinary way." The mover stated that it was desirable that more new blood should be infused into the com-: mittee. On being put to the vote, the proposal was rejected. An attempt ab burglary took place at a residence in Ferguson street during the absence of the. family at a picnic ; excursion. ; Apparently every room was visited, but nothing was taken, a sum of money which had been concealed in a bundle of clothes being missed by the thief., . The committee of the A. and; P. Association received a letter from an exhibitor at Masterton' expressing- the opinion the issue of prize certificates by the association was a waste of money, .pointing out that the Manawatu Association was one of very few such bodies in New Zealand'which, issue certificates. It was decided that a clause be inserted in the schedule and catalogue to read: "That first, second, and. champion prizewinners may liave their prize certificates, :by. notifying the secretary within one jinonth after the show." At the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Orchestral Society, officers were elected as follow: President, Mr. 1 A. J. Graham; vice-presidents, Messrs.B. J. Jacobs, P. 'S.. Larcomb, F. J. Nathan, A. Skerman, and J. Carter; committee, Mrs. Law, Dr. Peach, Messrs. P. .S. Larcomb, W. T. Penny, and C. Greening; honorary conductor, Mr. MCohen; leader, Mr. C: L. Mowlem; pianist, Miss Wilson; deputy-pianists, Misses Carbines and Woodfield; librarian, Mr. Johans'en • hon. auditor, Mr. E. Davia; secretary and Weasurer, Mr. 0. G. Swallow ; trnstees, Messrs. M. Cohen, A. J. Graham, and C. G. Swallow. At a meeting of the Manawatu Cricket, Association the secretary was instructs ed to interview players so as to ascertain who would make the trip if a team is sent to Napier to play Hawkes Bay during February. Only two criminal cases are set down for trial at the Supreme Court, which ppens here on sth February, anS one person will come up for sentence. Mr. Justice Keed will preside at the sessions.
