EVENING MEETING

athletic football sports club:

A successful sports meeting was held at Athletic Park last evening, under Ihe management of the Athletic Football Sports Club. The conditions were ideal,1 and some good times were registered, notably in the 220 yards and one mile handicaps. The officials were as follow: —Track judges, Messrs. A. W. 0. Travers, H. W. Guy made, a strong effort to overtake Fitti;, and: the latter had scarcely a foot to spare, when the tape was breasted. Black was three yards away ; with Stevenson; in close attendance. Time, 22 2-ssec. : 220 Yards Hurdles Handicap.—J. O. J. .Malfroy (owes 20yds), 1; S. Wogan' (owes 7yds), 2; R.. Lander (owes 19yds),. 3. Also started: F. Malmanche (owes 15yds), R. Sutherland (owes-15yds), A. Sceats (owes 7yds), H. Ware (scr). Malmanche led to the last hurdle, where he fell,, and Malfroy was able to win by a yard. Wogan beat Lander for second place by inches. Time, 32 2-ssec. \ One Mile Handicap.—W. Scatchard 195 yds), 1; W. Melrose (50yds), 2; D. Priestley (25yds), 3.' Also started: H. MiCormick (65yds), G. W. Dome . (75 yds), C. Bowler (85yds), W. H. In the last lap Priestley made good progress, and overhauled all except Scatchard and Melrose. Porter (4jyds), ytJ Wilkins (6iyds), J. .Thistoll (6£yds), T. Harper (9yds). Miss' Swinburne won comfortably by a yard, with a foot between second and third, and Miss Porter a good fourth. Time, 15sec. One Mile Walk Handicap.—J. Lankshear (165 yds), 1; F.C. Hickling (75 yds), 2; J. Futter (150 yds), 3. Also started: ■W. R. Tonkin (65yds), C. R. Lovatt (100 yds), ■J. Blair (150 yds),' A. Hickling (300 yds). A. Hickling led for nearly three laps, after which Lankshear took charge and won easily. Lovatt headed off F. C. -Hickling near the tape, but was disqualified, and Hickling was placed second and Futter third. Time, 6min 29sec. ■ Boys' Race.—R. Middleton, 1; W., Killeen, 2; G. Adams, 3.. ' Half-mile Relay.—Victoria University (C. W. Davies, F. S. Hill* E. B. Smith, and J. O. Malfroy), 1; Wellington (H. Bennett, F. Malmanche, Cox, and E. Guy), 2; Olympic (C. Campbell, Jeffries, P. Wilson, Scatchard), 3.' Also started: Selwyn (H. Sergeant, 11. Rose, A. Grigg, and Brown), and Athletic (A. Stevenson, S. Fittis, Todd, and L. C. Elliott). Olympic led over the first and second distances, after which 'Varsity took command, and won easily by 8 yards. Wellington beat Olympic by a yard. Time, lmin 41sec.
