TUNNEL ALMOST THROUGH
ORONGORONGO WATER SUPPLY.
Ten tenders have been received by the Corporation for the supply of mains and fittings for the Orongorongo-Karori pipe line, both as to steel and concrete pipings, and these are being considered at a special meeting of the City" Council this afternoon. '
The latest official report on the progress of the work on the Orongorongo tunnel states .that the boring rate ■ from either end is being steadily maintained, although one or two wet patches—the whole length is rather more than what one might correctly style merely damp —had been met with. On that date 19th instant, the cut on. the Waiimi side had amounted to 5800 feet, and on the other side to 4132 feet, a total of 9932 feet out of the full tunnel length of 10,523 feet. That being so, it is probable that the prediction made some months ago: that the trinnel would be through by the middle of next month is pretty near the mark.^ - ... . Tw o gangs of workmen are just nov engaged _ m laying .the mains, for wate and drainage reticulation of Onsky very fair progress being made.
