BUSY TELEGRAPH STAFF

The staff at the Chief Telegraph Office Wellington, had a, very busy four days' from the 20th instant till Christmas Eve! During the period mentioned 23,880 messages were forwarded, 35,305 were received, and the transmissions totalled 46,388.

A Press Association message from Christcliurch states that two telegraph records were broken there; first, in the number of messages handled, andy second, in rapidity of dispatch. Thanks to the installation^ of two multiplex machines, the office forwarded 5471 messages, against 3770 last year; and received 9330 messages as against 7065 last year. The total number of telegrams transmitted was 18,884, last year the number being 14,077. A record was also established ia the postal business done.
