KARORI CEMETERY

TO THB BDITOB. _ Sir,—Will you kindly permit; me to draw attention to the neglected state of the Karori Cemetery? An inspection at tiie present time will show the graves covered with weeds in blossom and some cf the paths partly blocked with old concrete and rubbish. The main ro4d is in fair condition now, but when it requires repair, it is done by throwing partly broken rotten rock in the holes, which material is left to be crushed by motorcars and other vehicles. ■ The' condition of this road by projecting large stones at times is such that it is unfit for a female to walk on. It is apparent to tho observant eye that the neglect is caused' Ky : false. economy. The tools are co antiquated .and worn out -that-they would be. refused at a second-hand shop. Men over 60: years can be seen carrying burdens which should. be done by a horse and cart. About two years a-go'a horse -was supplied for cemetery work but owing to.old.age he had to be discarded, and the powers thatbe seem to think, it better economy to let these elderly men carry the rubbish. The soldiers plot is the only part which receives proper attention. It is time the citizens woke up to the fact that more respect should be shown to the remains of many noble citizens lying there. What is wanted is more labour, more modern appliances, and a broader outlook. In comparison to other cities and their cemeteries,- it is no credit to,the Capital City.—l am, etc., A BRITISHER. 10th December.
