EASTBOURNE'S EFFORT
Eastbourne is starting out to join those suburbs that are doing something for the Radium (Radiation) Fund. The Mayor, Mr. F: H. Mather, presided over a public meeting held in the Council Chamber, Eastbourne, last, evening. About thirty ratepayers and sympathisers attended.
Dri P. Macdonald Wilson, Medical Superintendent of the Wellington Hospital, gave an address on Radium, his explanation of its relation to' cancer, and other diseases being on the lines of previous utterances. In the community interest, and also in the individual interest, the movement to establish a Radium Department at Wellington Hospital should be supported. Mr. D. M'Laren pointed out that the price of radium had fallen considerably and that the price situation to-day appeared to be favourable. This was not an ordinary appeal, but, a, duty to humanity. .
The following committee was appointed (in some cases, subject to appointee's consent) : The Mayor, Mesdames Samuel, Richards, and Burch, Messrs. Levy (treasurer), Hartridge (secretary), Horton, Besant, Jewett, Samuel, Richards Lewis, and Burch.
i About £25 was promised.in the room, including £5 2s 6d from the employees of the Eastbourne Borough Council.
