CONSERVATIVE OPINION
HARDENED AGAINST CHANGE.
LONDON, 10th December
The indications this altefnoon are that Conservative opinion is hardening against the idea of Mr. Baldwin's resignation, because it is the duty of the Conservatives, as still the strongest, party, to carry on the Government, and there is ho occasion for precipitate action. , If, however, Mr. Baldwin insiets on resigning, and the Conservative Ministry is not reconstructed, Mr. Macdonald may be summoned by the 'King, but as the Labourites in their present mood are disinclined to yield a single item, of their election platform, Mr. Maedonald Wight decline the task, while Willing to co-operatfe with the Liberals oh limited lines. In such aft event Mr. Asquith or his nominee Svjll be siiihiholied. The consensus of opinion of all parties is still opposed to a Coalition. There is considerable speculation why the King sent for Mr. Baldwin instead of awAitinft tire formal anhouneellient of the Conservative decision after the .Cabinet riveting, but it. is understood that the King merely desired a. fii-st-hand account- of Mr. Baldwin's Views on trm situation, and the question of resignation Was not discussed.
