MIXED WEATHER CONDITIONS

Some very high temperatures have been recorded over the Dominion, and some great contrasts have also been reported. For instance, at 9 a.m. to-day a temperature of 81 degrees was reported at Oamaru, while only 48 degrees was registered at the Bluff—the two places being only some 130 miles apart. Northerly and westerly gales prevailed, particularly south of Cook Strait. High pressure rules in the north and low in the south. The weather map is somewhat complicated to-day, the main feature being a disturbance on the Tasman Sea, which' has been threatening a change for a day or two. The forecast to-day is for warm and humid conditions with increasing cloud and haziness; rain probable on the West Coast and southern districts; and indications for electrical disturbance on the East Coast parti cularly in the South Island.
