NELSON NOTES

HOP-PICKING HOLIDAYS,

(81 TELEGRAPH.—fREBS ASSOCIATION.)

i\ELSON, This Day. A deputation from Motueka and Riwaka will wait \ipon the Minister of Labour this week, asking' for the reinstatement- o£ the hop-picking holidays, arid will present a large petition in support. There is every indication that the Education Board will resist the proposal,'and will be backed by the Department arid Education Council and inspectorial staff. All favour uniformity in holidays. A good deal depends on the Minister's attitude. There is a diversity of opinion among school committees throughout the hop and fruitgrowing districts.
