A UNANIMOUS REQUEST

EMPLOYERS' FEDERATION PRESIDENCY

MR. T. S.. WESTON TO CONTINUE IN OFFICE.

Strong representations were made to the 'president of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, Mr. T. Shailer j Weston, at the annual meeting this morning that he should continue in office .for a. further twelve months. At the last annual meeting, Mr. Weston, who has occupied the position for many years, intimated that at, the close of the year then commencing, he would decline further nomination. When the election of officers was under consideration today, Mr. A. G. Bignell, president of the Wanganui Association, paid a high trib-ute-to,Mr.. Western's ability, and to his past work on behalf of the employers of the Dominion, and presented him with an address signed by the presidents of the fifteen employers' associations | throughout the Dominion requesting him to reconsider his decision. Reference was made to the responsibilities and arduous work-he had shouldered during and since the war, and appreciation was expressed of his long service in the inter- j ests of the .federation. I "In support of onr request," stated the requisition, "we can only urge our necessity. We feel that your wise coun-' sel, capable and tactful administration, and great influence, are needed to enable. our organisation to achieve the best results during the difficult period of industrial' development upon which the Dominion has now entered. The strength and efficiency of our organisation to-day is to a very great extent the result of the adoption of the scheme which you originated with such foresight and sound judgment in the early part of last year.. We are under great obligations to you for that, and for the very many other things we have achieved in the past, and it is our earnest hope that you will reconsider ,your decision to retire, and will continue to preside over the organisation which has grown up under your guidance." The document concluded with the statement that it was/the unanimous wish of employers that he should reconsider his decision. Mr. Weston said it was nice to feel that what little work he had done haa been appreciated. He could have done nothing without the loyal support' of the members of the Advisory Board and of the association. It was possible to build up the federation to become not only a vital force in the community but an organisation which could ensure the future success and prosperity of the country. Their object should be to look i at things in a broad way, and from the i point of view of. the best interests of j the Dominion. In face of the unanimity ! of the request that he should continuo in office, he would be only too gla;d to I place his services at their disposal for a j further term. Mr. Weston's decision was greeted ] with applause. . I
