PETONE COUNCIL

A meeting of the Petone Borough Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), Councillors W. Hay, H. Jay, V. Jacobson, W. Coles, and G. Cook.

The Assistant-District Public Trustee wrote oiTering the council £400 for putting the private streets in proper order. The council accepted the offer, provided the Public Trustee offered the properties first at a reasonable price to the present tenants.

The offer of Mr. Anyan to pay half the cost of repairing a lamp-post knocked down by his motor-car when attempting to evade a woman and child was accepted. Mr. L. Russell wrote complaining of the street concert in Jackson street on Inday nights, which blocked the streets and interfered with business.
