Dr. and Mrs! ■Lindo Ferguson, who have been attending' the Medical Conference at Melbourne are remaining in Australia for a short period

The death is announced from .Christchurch of Mr. Frank Cooper, secretary' of the Canterbury Employers' Associa^ tion, and at on e time associated with Cooper and Duncan, Ltd.

Dr. Elizabeth Gunn and Dr. Truby King,, of Wellington, Dr. Carrick Robertson, of Auckland, and Dr. Tweed of Carterton, returned from the Medical Conference at Melbourne by the Maunganui to-day. Several other New Zealand delegates will arrive by the Marama to-morrow. • -■

The Hon. R, F. Bollard (Minister of Internal Affairs) accompanied by Mrs. and Miss Bollard, left Wellington by the Main Trunk express to-day for Auckland. It is Mr. Bollard's intention to. spend two or three days in Auckland. Later the Minister' will leave for the Waikato, and with the Hon. W. Nosworthy (Minister of Agriculture) will visit the Thames, Bay of. Plenty, and Gisborne districts. At each of .the districts mentioned Mr. Bollard will fulfil a number of engagements connected with the administration of his Departments, and, conjointly with Mr. Nosworthy, deal with matters coming within the province of the Lands Department.

Cable advice has been received by Mr. W. Meldrum, C.M.G., D.5.0., S.M. at Ureymouth, announcing the death of his father, Mr. Alexander Lewis Meldrum, at Kincable. St. Andrews. Scotland. The late Mr. Meldrum was 83 years of age. He arrived in New Zealand in 1859, landing at Auckland. He took up land' '" the Waikato, but on the outbreak of the Maori War he, with other settlers, w 4 t S dn, ven °ff> in company with two others, he settled in the Whangarei district, later he developed a coal mine at iiamo, and carried it on for some years. The late Mr. Meldrum was the founder of the first Presbyterian Church at Whangarei. In 1910, deceased was left the estate of "Easter Kincable" and went t 0 Scotland, whera he had since resided. His wife pre-deceased him a Jew months ago, and he leaves two sons and two daughters—Mr. W Meldrum, Greymouth; Mr. D. Meldrum, manager for Bing, Harris, . and Co., Wanganui; Mrs. Bedhngton, of whangarei who recently has been at Home with her father; and Mrs. Benoit ct Kamo. . " '
