The Department of War has announced the perfection of a fifty-calibre machine anti-aircraft gun, firing 500 shots a minute with a perpendicular- range of 9000 to 12,000 feet and a 37-millimetre antiaircraft machine gun firing 120 shots a minute with a perpendicular range of 14,000 feet. : This weapon fires shells with such, delicately-adjusted fuses that they explode upon contact with balloon cloth.
The Department is now testing an-other-anti-aircraft gun with a perpendicular range of 30,000 feet. This weapon is considered the newest and most powerful protection against aircraft yet devised.
