CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS
DATES TO BE OBSERVED IN
DUNEDIN.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—SPBCUL 10 THS POSf.l
DUNEDIN, This Day. The question of the observance of holidays at Christmas and New Year was considered at a large and representative meeting of retailers. After the fullest consideration it was agreed that shops should remain open until 10 p.m. on ' Monday, 24th December (Christmas Eve), and Monday, 31st December (New Year's Eve). The usual late night will be observed on Friday, 21st December, but there will be no late night on Friday, 28th December, or Friday, 4th January. The Shops and Offices Act provides that when for two full days in any week shops are closed and assistants are not employed the usual statutory half-holiday need not be observed, but it is not anticipated that advantage will be taken by the employers of this provision, and it is probable that shops will close at the usual hour on Saturday, 29th December, and Saturday, sth January.
