BAND ROTUNDA SELECTED!

In Si. Hilda's Hall, Island Bay, last evening, a meeting was hold to consider what forni tho district war memorial should take. Mr. J. 0. Shorland presided, and there was a good public attendance. Mr. John Gruar moved, and the chairman seconded, a resolution favouring tho selection of a band rotunda aa a most suitable form-, for the war memorial to take. The chairman stated that £350 had been raised for the memorial, but the aifficulfr 1 question to decide was what form the memorial should take.

M'llroy suggested that, as eventually tho City Council would have to provide a. band stand for the new seusido, ira-rk, near-the tram terminus, the council might woll be asked to subsidiso the project. Tliis proposal was .approved. On the motion of Mr. H. H. Millar, tho following committeo was appointed to approach tho City Council on tho question of taking' steps—by means of a carnival or otherwise —to raiso further funds to put tTio whole matter in trim and complete the band-stand at tho earliest pos6iblo moment:—Messrs. C. C. Odlin, J. O. Shorland; B. Lewis, G. Gruar, and tho mover, with power to add to their nratiBpri Mr. G., J. Spriggins, secretary to the Island Bay Surf Club, assured the rtteoting that, now the decision in favour of a. band stand had been arrived at, tho project would, have the full support of the Surf Club.
