The statement made in last night's "Post" that the late Afchedeacon Henry 'Williams, who arrived in New Zealand in 1823, "was the first resident ordain--ed missionary to the Maoris," was incorrect. Mr. Wilfred Barton, of Tren■tham, great-grandson of the Rev. John Butler, points out that the latter arrived in the Bay of Islands on 12th August, 1819, and in that year built the first house in New Zealand at Kirikiri. He left New Zealand in 1853, just ICO years a<ra, and was succeeded by the rReV. Henry Williams. ■■■. ■■■■ ,
The Ladies' Guild in connection'" with the Cambridge Terrace Congregational Church is holding its annual,sale of work on Wednesday and Thursday of ne>;t week. The sale will be opened on Wednesday afternoon by the Mayoress (Mrs. R. A. Wright). The stalls will provide ample opportunity for all to purchase goods they need. There -will be a one-hour's entertainment each evening. The proceeds are towards build,ing extension, which, ia already iii hand.
