HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN
The monthly meeting of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held on Thursday, when there were present-.—Miss Barnett-tfn the chair), Mesdames Tripe, Ward, Cook, Gibbs, McLean, Harvey, Nat'iian,. Hall, Luke, Lady Chapman, Mias Cameron. Branches were represented by Mrs. Guthrie (Karori), Mrs. Ardell (Hataitai), Mrs. Rose (Lyall Bay), Mrs. Smith (Brooklyn), and Mrs. Robinson (Eastbourne). Apologies were received from Mrs. Hosking, Mrs, Buckleton, Mrs. Johnson, and Mrs. Ewen. The nurse's report, after detailing the number of cases treated during the month (94, of which total headquarters attended to 83) said that much good work wa-s done during Health* Week, the public showing--in many cases the most intelligent interest in the different charts and food display. It was also very noticeable this year that the general public was beginning to realise that wrong feeding in early childhood and later life is disastrous to good health. Both the committee and nurses gratefully acknowledge a bundle of beautifully sewn babies' clothes made by the "Wohelo" Club, Y.W.C.A. The mothercraft work has commenced, the staff is in residence, and three patients have been admitted. Good progress has been made with furnishing during the month, and the committee acknowledges with thanks the following gifts :—Mrs. Hosking, table linen, garden tools, wringer, pantry, furnishings and cutlery; Miss Barhett, bed and mattress.- chest, pantry, and kitchen articles; Lady Chapman, house linen; Mi's. Ardell, lolinge chair and jam; Mrs. Nathan, table linen, jam and pot plants ; Mrs Andrews Mason, jam jars, linen: Mrs. Stott, gift of linen; Mr. Bowen for help with furnishing. The committee would be very grateful for gifts of chairs small tables and cutlery; also for plants for the garden. The official opening takes place on the 14th November. Sir Maui Pomare, Minister for Health, will perform the opening ceremony. Drs. Elliott, Fenwick, Corkhill. and Line-nave been appointed and have kindly consented to act as hon. physicians for the new work. The resignation of Mrs. Sydney Kirkcaldie from the committee was received with n;uch regret.
