'' ■ Lowthwn Thompson and John Cowper, both aged 45, are believed to have been drowned by the capsizing of a-fiat-bottom-ed boat at the mouth of the Waimakariri Kiver last evening, while going out to save tho launch Celtic which had drifted to sea Ihe men were last seen swimming towards the launch, which was seen by the-captain of the Maori early this morning near Sumaer. It was apparently under control, but- thora was no sign Of lifo aboard Kaiapoi people beltove that tho men had but little chance of reaching tho launch.
