DOMINION TOURISTS

RETURN OF CUSTOMS DEPOSITS.

(BT TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, Ist November. After a • long campaign designed to make it easier for tourists to bring their own cars to New Zealand, the South Island Motor Union has received the following Utter from Mr. G. Craig. Comp-troller-General of Customs:— "With reference to your letter respecting the return of the deposits of duty on tourists' motor-cars, I have to inform you that arrangements have been made by which a tourist yisitino; New Zealand may, if he so desires, have the sum deposited to cover duty on his car returned to him at any port in the Dominion at which his car is shipped for re-export. If a tourist intends to export his car from a port other than the jport of arrival, he may notify the Collector of Customs at the port of arrival and request him to arrange for a return of the deposit at the intended port of export. In such case, it will be necessary for the tourist to produce to the collector an extra copy of the Customs entry (imports entry goods oh deposit). It is believed that the above mentioned arrangement will facilitate the return without unnecessary delay of deposits of this 1 nature."
