DEPUTATION WAITS ON MINISTER.

(BI TEIiEQRArU PRESo ASSOCIATION.) ASHBUBTON, Ist November. The county chairman (Mr. Lill) and Mr. Galbraith, Mayoi of Ashburton, interviewed the Minister of Railways '(the Hon. J. G. Coates) and the General Manager (Mr. R. W. M'Villy), and asked for a reduction of shunting over dangerous crossings. Mr. Lill s?id that when the station, a few years ago, was shifted further up the line ; it was hoped the nuisance would be mitigated. Jlr. Coates asked if they thought the Department was doing this to annoy people. The Mayor said the Department marshalled its rolling stock over the crossings. Mr. M'Villy replied that the only remedy would be to move the station a mile or two into the country. No promise was given.
