TECHNICAL COLLEGE

VISITORS' EVENING.

The Wellington Technical College was open to visitors last evening, and from 7 till 9 o'clock large numbers of relatives and friends of the students and others interested in the work of the institution attended and inspected the really fine and varied display of the result of the pupils' labours. As is well known, the present building is quite inadequate and unsuitable for the holdiiig of classes numbering nearly 2000 young people, and some of the classes already occupy rooms in. the partially-construct-ed new college building at Mount Cook. One of the most interesting sections of the college is that devoted to the making: of certain fine classes of work usually "associated wi£h jewellery establishments. Amongst the exhibits in this department was the key to be used on the occasion of the formal opening of the new college. The key was made by one of the girl students. Another department which attracted much attention was that of house construction. Here boys were busily engaged in building houses in miniature. In adjoining roems plumbing work, mechanical engineering, furniture making, etc., were being done. The art section contained ■ much fine work. Altogether, the display reflected the greatest credit on both the instructors and the students, who are achieving excellent results under adverse conditions.
