RIFLE SHOOTING

THE TRENTHAM .MEETING

MORE DONATIONS WANTED.

Mr. R. Caughley presided at the annual meeting of the Wellington Rifle Association, held in the Drill Hall last evening. Dealing with the association's last meeting at Trentham on the Ist and 2nd January, 1923, the annual report stated that the programme for that meeting was based on 150 entries, which proved too high, as the entries did not exceed 80. With those entries it had been necessary to cut the prize list down. Such a course of action, it was considered, was a death-knock to any association. In the Cadet matches,* only ten lads competed. The donations received had been below previous years: 1923 £35 12s 6d; 1922, £47 11s; 1921. £94" 2s; 1920, £109 11s 6d. Receipts for the meeting stood at £335 63, and the expenditure at £338 14s lid. Thanks were due to the members of the executive committee and the chairman (Mr. D. J. Guiney), Captain White, Major Henderson, Major Matterson, the late Captain Davies, Captain Ranken, and Staff Sergeant-Major J. King. The balance-sheet showed the association to have a credit balance of £3 16s Id. ■ ... In reviewing the year, the chairman said that an effort should be made to get the donations up to the standardof three or four years ago. If every club helped, the donations should amount to £50, and this year's meeting would be a much greater success. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. On the motion of Mr. A. ■ Butler, it was decided that the executive should consist of eleven members, comprising two delegates from each club, and til© chairman of the Wellington Rifle Association, the latter to be elected at the association's annual meeting. Election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—Patron, the Minister of Defence (the Hon. Sir E-.. Heaton Rhodes); vice-patrons, Major-General Richardson, Colonel R. J. Collins; president, His Worship the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, I M.P.). Colonel R. St. J. Beere was j added to the, existing list of vice-presi-' dents. Chief range officer, Sergt.-Major ! J. S. King; railway warrant officers, Mr. E. Daniell; chairman of executive committee, Mr. R. Caughley; auditor, Mr. , E. Daniell; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. G. Fellingham. The arrangements for the association's annual rifle meeting, which is to be held on the Ist and 2nd January, were left in the hands of the executive committee. • ' - It was decided that it be a recommendation to the committee that the entry fee for all matches for the association's meeting be £2 10s. Mr. A. Butler presided at a meeting of the Wellington Rifle Clubs' Union, held prior to the meeting of the Wellington Rifle Association, when the following motion was considered: "That this meeting of the Wellington Rifle Clubs' Union resolves to allow itself to be absorbed by the Wellington Rifle Association, subject to the agreement of the latter body." This was seconded and carried unanimously. The chairman stated that the cups at present held by the Rifle Clubs' Union would be transferred to the Rifle Association.
