A PETITION TO THE COUNCIL
RESIDENTS WANT SOMETHING DONE.
Thorndon residents are now petitioning the City Council with a request that something should b e done to do away with the very serious dust niusance along the quay, and. up to the present over three hundred signatures have been attached to the petition, which is as follows :— ( " We, the undersigned, having our daily occupation on Thorndon quay, respectfully urge you to deal more effectively with the dust nuisance on the stretch of road between the car shedg and Lambton station. The continuous clouds of dust in fine wea,ther are a menace to the health, comfort, and cleanlinesg of residents, traveller* by road and tram, and especially to those employed all day in this locality." Thai Thorndon^ people feel strongly .about the dust nuisance is shown by some of the remarks following their signatures, for instance: "Entrance to the Empire City—dust and filth " " the dust and mud are abominable"; "fresh air and health-i----dust and death "; " a patient sufferer— tho housewife " ; " tightly closed doors and windows in preference to Health Week advice " ; "I earnestly appeal to the City Fathers "; " mud in winterdust in summer"; "disgrace to civilisation ''; " dust is something awful— cannot keep house clean"; "worse than the Sahara"; "words fail us"; '' a visitor and sick of it."
