HANDLING IN AUSTRALIA
NEW ZEALAND SYSTEM URGED,
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTRIOHT.) (Received Ist November, 11.30 a.m.) PERTH, Slst October. The Australian Provincial Press Union has decided to ask the Postmaster-Gen-eral to adopt the New Zealand scheme, by which Press telegrams may be lodged at any time during the day, and the aggregate 'number of words is charged for at the end of the day. It is complained that the time of lodgment of Press messages is often shown as' three hours after the time they are handed oyer the counter, the time being entered after they are counted and stamped.-. It is urged that Press messages should be given precedence over private ones. The conference also decided to inquire into the system of news gathering and distribution in New Zealand.
