GOVERNMENT'S DESIRES
LIMITED BY BONAR LAW'S
PLEDGE
PRICES WOULD BE CHEAPENED
(UNITED PRESS ASEOCIATIOK.-COP^RIGBT.')
(ABSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.)
LONDON, 30th October. Mr. Amery, at Westminster, said : "The effect of Imperial preference would be to cheapen prices, as foreign competitors would strain every nerve to retain their markets. Subject to the limitations of Mr. Bonar Law's pledge we cannot do all we v:ould do ' and mean to do, but I have no doubt that as each instalment of this policy shows its results in the development of Empire trade, the people of Britain will be convinced of the necessity for carrying out the policy on the broadest lines. We cannot for a long time do everything the Dominions would consider an advantage to themselves, out the field for development has few limits to it."
