TENNIS FINANCE

LOSS FOE THE YEAR.

The statement of accounts prepared for presentation to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to-morrow night shows a considerable loss on the operations of the past year. The principal items accounting lor this loss are:-— ' Loss on visit of N.S.W. Ladies' Team to N.Z. ... £175 15 6 Cost of visit of N.Z. Men's Team to N.S.W. ; £211 1 5 Outside these two items the revenue of the associa-ticn was just sufficient to meet current expenses. "There is a "feeling," states the report, that' the present accumulated funds of the association should be confcerved for big occasions, such a« the sending of a team to represent the Dominion in the Davis Cup or the bringing of international teams to New Zealand from overseas. For this reason a motion will probably be brought forward shortly to alter the present method by which the association obtains a greater part of its revenue from levies on the affiliated associations. It is considered that the ordinary revenue of the association should be sufficient to pay for the visit of teams to and from Australia without having to encroach so deeply 6n its accumulated funds as has been done during the past season." From a financial standpoint the visit of the New South Wales ladies' team was not the success anticipated. This was due to various causes, the chief of whioh was the inclement weather experienced during the tour. In other respects the tour was a great success and tennis generally in New Zealand will reap the benefit of the money! expended on it.

The excess of expenditure over income for the year was £369 15s 3d. The association now has a credit balance of £1278.
