NEW AWARD ASKED FOR.

The Wellington Wholesale Merchants' Employees' Union (storemen and packers) are asking for a ni%v award as to wages and certain working conditions, the wages, claims being as follow, present rates being shown in parentheses:— Head storeman in charge of one or more, £4 17s per week (£4 7s); storeman or packer where no other is employed £4 iv I? /£z 3 %*) ; .ordinary storema n ; £417b 5d (£3 17a); juniors under 17 years, £1 8s 6d (£1 3» 6d); 17 to 18, £1 lj s (£1 8s 6d) 18 to is., £2 5s (£1 I& 6d; 19 to 20, £2 17s 6d (£2 8s 6d); 20 to 21, £3 10s (£2 18s 6d); casual workers, 2s 6d per hour (Is lid). A demand is also made for payment at the rate of an additional 3d per hour for storemen and packers handling cement. Payment for work done on holidays is asked for at double rates instead of the present time and a half. Messrs. O W Henry, H. Dyson and F. Q Simpson have been appointed the union's assessors during the proceedings before the Conciliation Commissioner to-morrow.
