(OKITBD PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPSRI'iHT.)

(AUSTRAMAH-NBW ZKAfcAKD CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 13th October.

In the motor-gliding contests at Lympne, the French aviator, Maneyrol, in his first attempt for the altitude prize, reached ten thousand feet, when the petrol pipe froze. He drifted' seaward, but made a good landing.

The British flyers Piercy and Hammersley claim that they reached 13,000 and 12,000 feet respectively. When Maneyrol was returning to the aerodrome after a second ascent, and was still seventy-five feet from the ground, the wings of his machine folded and he crashed. Maneyrol died in a few minutes.
