MARANUI SURE CLUB.

A successful past season and a season with good prospects are indicated in the annual report of the Maranui Surf and Life-saving Club. . ")

That life-saving was once more taking its place in the interest of the community was evidenced by the increased interest shown in the work of the club by the> general public. The response of members for duty in alarm teams fiad! been good, and it is hoped that more members will make themselves available during the coming season." A satisfactory financial position of affuirs was reported. Although commencing the new season with a small credit, balance, there was no outstanding liabilities to meet. The revenue had decreased owing to the closing of the ladies' branch of- the club, and it would be necessary to .devise some way of increasing the annual revenue. With the prompt payment of subscriptions the committee would be able to-maintain the clubhouse and gear, and to make several necessary improvements.- ':■ Several ladies had assisted in helping the club to raise fuuds to purchase the surf boat, and their efforts were highly successful. The ladies were entertained at a social evening'at the house of Mrs W. .J. Goddard. The surf boat had been built and paid for, and the City Council is arranging for accommodation of the boat next to the clubhouse. It is hoped to train teams in ample time for the opening of the new season. The committee felt that with the boat and the reel teams working in unison tLTs possibility of a bathing fatality will be reduced to an absolute minimum.

The membership of the club stands at 102, of which four are life members 60 active, and 38 non-active. Some members hud had to be removed from the roll for not submitting themselves for examination for the bronze medallidn during the season, while others had defaulted in subscriptions. New members were urgently needed. The club-rooms had been enlarged and renovated, and were noV the most complete and up-to-date in Wellington. The life-saving clusses bad been Well attended, and there had been a substantial increase in the number of awards gained. " ■ -■■•■•■■
