MASTERTON TOURNAMENT.
An all-amateur boxing tournament was held at Masterton on Saturday evening, when eight splendid bouts were staged. Mr. Tim Tracy, of Wellington, was the referee. Results were as follow:—Stoddart (Carterton), Bst 71b, beat E. Miller ■ (Masterton), Bst. M'Arley fMastertonj, 9st 81b, beat M'Cullough (Masterton), 9st Blb. Chamberlain (Masterton), lOst 121b. and Rutherford (Masterton), lOst, fought a draw. Runbull (Carterton), lOst, beat Allen (Masterton), lOst. Chamberlain (Masterton), lOst 61b, beat Phillips (Carterton), lOst 61b. Johansen (Masterton), 10ft 121b, beat ■■ Crawley (Carterton), list 71b. These contests were confined to thfee two-minute rounds. Percy Black, the clever Wellington featherweight, was defeated in a five rounds contest by Gardner, of Master - ton, who had Black down for nine in the initial round. From then on the Wellington boy had to use all his ringmanship to keep himself out of danger, and a*very popular verdict went to Gardner.
Hermie Rathner, also of Wellington, Using his greater experience to advantage, outpointed Papps, of n Mastert6n. The loser showed up well in the close work, but in the open fighting he was outclassed. :
