HIGH PRESSURE WEATHER

The lifting of the mist which overspread Wellington this morning brought a return of the brighter spring weather, and a gradual improvement made the weather perfect this afternoon. Meteorologically speaking the conditions are threatening, but the high pressure still succeeds in holding the field, and the influences of a disturbance on tho Tasman Sea are not being experienced here, lhe Director of the Meteorological Office states that the skies this mornin" were overcast in all parts of the North" Island, and fog. and drizzling rain were reported on the West Coast of the North Island, and also at Timaru. The barometer is still above normal in the north, and has only fallen one-tenth of an inch in the South, whereas a fall of over half-an-inch would not have been surprising and may still take place. The forecast is for skies dull to overcast with misty rain probable in the northern districts and mild and hazy conditions, clouding over and rain following later, elsewhere. The barometer should have a tailing tendency, and northerly winds are likely to prevail and increase everywhere.
