MISSING MEN SAFE
ADVENTURES ON MATAKANA ISLAND.

TAURANGA, This Day. Anxiety-in -regard to the safety of Messrs. Evans, Morgan, and Dickson K-ho left Tauranga on Wednesday afternoon in a launch to" go''fishing, was relieved- this morning when one of the' missing men" returned from Matakana Island and reported" that about 6 o'clock on Wednesday night a,Bea came aboard and .swept the. ropes overboard, one fouling the propeller. " This was got clear, but meanwhile the launch had filled and the engine would not go. The boat went ashore- in ■ about six feet of .water, and the men got ashore safely The party only had a loaf of bread and a .pound of butter, and no word had been- heard of them since their departure. Xesterday some fishermen saw a boat on thebeach at Matakana Island, near Kati. KalL harbour . entrance, and a dinghy on the beach about half a milo away, but there was no sign of the men. The fishermen were unable to get ion to the beach owing to the breakers, but a- party later went to the isJand, and endeavoured to reach the stranded boat overland, but have not yet returned. • ,
Wednesday night was very "dirty," there being heavy rain and wind.. The party left the harbour when other boats jrere returning for shelter.
