SERIOUS CHARGES
SENSATION AT. OTAKI.
A sensation has been created at Otaki by occurrences there on an evening early this week. The "Post's" correspondent states that George Ay re, a wellknown resident, was charged at court that he did unlawfully enter the Otaki Kiosk with intent to commit a crime, that he did, with intent to. commit a crime, or facilitate a crime, cause Margaret Parata to be chloroformed. Accused was remanded for eight days, bail being refused. The facts which led to Ayre's arrest showed that Miss Parata had retired for the evening, and that she and a room companion, Miss Cotterell, daughter of the Kiosk proprietor, were asleep when a man who had entered by some means,_ went into their room, quickly rendering Miss Parata unconscious by means of chloroform. He then went to Miss Cotterell, who remained asleep, but who, waking, called loudly for help t!>e_ intruder disappearing. A complaint was entered with the police, and Detectives Quirk and Holmes apprehended Ayre.
