STRESEMANN DOING HIS BEST.
LONDON, 12th October. The Berlin correspondent of the "Daily Express" says that Herr Stresemann ,gave an interview this' morning. He looked harassed and pale, but speaks with confidence. He said : "It is no easy task to introduce new currency without the Ruhr and the.Rhineland or the slightest help from outside, but we have, got to have it. The people must have 'confidence in ' ifci *
"You saw that young frauleiri as you entered. • She is my secretary. I give her ten milliard" marks. She says, 'thank you very much.' Next day she comes back and says, 'Herr Chancellor, what shall-I do with the money? I can buy nothing with it.' So it is all over Germany. I have got to put the brakes on before the coach goes over the abyss. It is going to be hard. I have had a struggle since I came into office. Please tell England -I am doing my b«st." ...
_Later, when he received a deputation or German editors, Herr Stresemann said the salvation of Germany was a question not of days, but of hours.
