MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY
COMMENT ON -ABSENCE OF
RESPIRATORS.
(Received 4th September, 11.30 a.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day. A great number of sympathetic mesag^es- have been received in connection with the colliery disaster, including communications from the Governor-Gen-eral of Australia, the- Federal Prime Minister, and the Premiers of the various States. The absence of respirators is forming the subject of criticism many people contending that at least the rescue parties would have been assisted if respirators had been available. Owing to the disaster, the 'Chinese footballers suggested the postponement of to-day's match, but the Maitland officials preferred that the match should be played, and the gate receipts donated to the distress fund.
