SOUTHLAND WIN

MANAWATU DEFEATED ON SODDEN GROUND.

d INMERCARGILL, Ist September. Between two and three thousand peopiae saw Southland defeat Manawatu at Bugby Park, to-day. The ground- was sodden at the: result o£- r heavy rain, and a very heavy sou-wester was blowin" down field, which affected the play.- A shower fell during the last five minutes of the game ■■•Southland"-kicked-off- against the wmd_and attacked, but using the wind the visitors took the offensive after five minutes and Southland were forced several times. Agnew . converted. The best score of the day came-from a light ruck. Hazlett sent to Agnew, to Oilmour, who cut back, passed in to A"new the ball going to Scott, Matheson, and White.
