DAILY LETTER TELEGRAMS

-iTha ''Post- anoV -Telegraph-Department announces the - introduction on the -Ist proximo "of a new- cheap class of plain: languaga cable messages known as- daily tetter telegrams. These messages, which may be .'exchanged .with the United Kingdom'and'Canada only; will,be accepted on; any day except Sundays, and will be "subject to^a delay in transmission-of- 48 hours.' The charge for daily letter'telegrams" and ''the 'restrictions, -div 1 the--text will be the same as is at present in force for week-end cable messages, but, unlike* the latter, the new class of message -will be-delivered by message'boy at any time after 48 hours from' the time of lodgment.' ■ 'Daily letter !;telegrarris for the United Kingdom will be-accepted for transmission by either the "Eastern"'or the'"Pacific" route; those for Canada, "via Pacific" only. The new service has a distinct ■ advantage- over the present week-end service. It 'will, in fact, <be €qual;to'th6;pressnt "deferred" :system, except that; the-messages will be subject to 24 hours' delay; against approxi^ mately 24 hours for deferred messages* The rate will be just half of the present rate for "deferred" messages, except that there is ;no"minrmum in the latter case; The inauguration of the newl service will mark a considerable advance in the matter of'cheaper cable communication, and will-no doubt prove'very'popular with cable users. From the same^daieuthe rates, for weekend telegrams,, f 9 the United Kingdom will be; reduced'- from 13s 6d to lls lOd for a minimum-of, 20 words, and from 8d to 7d for each' succeeding word, and to Canada from 10s 2d to 8s lid for a minimum of 20 words, and from 6d to 5Jd for every word in. excess of 20. Weekend telegrams are accepted for transmission "via-'Pacific" only. ' '
