REACTION IN GERMANY
y STRESEMANN ENCOURAGED
FRENCH DESIRE TO HELP HIM.
• LONDON, 24th August. The "Daily Chronicle's" Berlin correspondent reports that Her? Stresemann, tlie German Chancellor, having studied Mr. Poincare's reply, will make an important speech on Friday, when he will be entertained-, by representatives of industry and commerce at luncheon. There is little doubt that Herr Stresemann has received certain encouragement from the French to be frank and bold. The correspondent says: "I can state on .the best authority that noteworthy hints have been given privately from France that there exists on the French side a real desire to make things.easy;for him. A study of the French reply has led the German Government to think that perhaps after all M. "Poincare will negotiate. A high Government official said that Hen- Stresemann's speech will be a straight talk instead of a diplomatic document." ■ "'..-■
