Another.: splendid success from all points of view was the presentation of Oscar Asche's spectacular play "Cairo" at "the Grand 'Opera House" (■lastNevening. The audience, feasted its eyes on rapidly changing scenes; endeavouring to take in all their details—almost an impossibility,- and /certainly so in la few of them/ Everything savoured of the East in which the scenes of the play are laid, and for lighting and general staging effects, there has/been ho" better production in New Zealand.' The most remarkable sbene of all,:that of the dancevtableau, held the audience spellbound., Mr. Oscar Aache plays the part.of Ali Shar, the boastful wrestler, - and the. supporting cast provided some fine talent and good singers. The performance '-.<will be given.- each, night .until. Wednesday next..... On, Thursday next, and .the, t\vo following ' evenings, and on ' Saturday afternoon, Ist September, Mr. Asche-will stage revivals of the.great Oriental play, "Chu Chin; Chow," the box plaas for which will" be opened at The ",_' Bristol on Monday morning.' The riame; part' in ;tlus production willibe^portrayed^by Mr. Asche, a character ,he created in London during, its record run of- five years there. The part of Zaliarat- .will.ie taken by Mills Doris Champion, who .is appearing so successfully in -"Cairo." Mr; Wensley Russell will; take the role of Ali Baba, wliichhe sang and acted in England. The part of The Cobbler wiU.be played by Mr..Maspri"Wood,: who has scored as the Chinaman in "Cairo."
