"SAUCE FOR THE GOOSE"
THE SANCTITY OF BARGAINS.
(Received 17th August, 9 a.m.)
LONDON, 16th August. Mr. J. R. Clynes, in a presidential address to the National Federation of General Workers, said that workmen must not be expected to submit to the doctrine that the standard of remuneration must remain at the low coat of living; but dockers and other grades of labour must find a way to resist wage reduction without. having to revolt against agreements which they have sanctioned. A bargain, when made, even though it might turn out to be bad, must be kept. Workmen would be the first to insist upon that principle being observed by employers.
