CHANNEL SWIM
SULLIVAN SUCCESSFUL.
(REDTER'S TEIEORAU.) (Received 7th August, 2 p.m.)
LONDON, 6th August. Sullivan has arrived at Calais, having crossed the Channel in 26 hours. 43 minutes.
Many attempts have been made to swim the English Channel, which is about twenty miles across. Captain Matthew Webb succeeding -jn crossing in August, 1875. in 21 hours 45 minutes, and T. W. Bursts completed the crossing in September, 1911, in 22 hours 35 minutes.
