A MOTOR-CAR,
(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
DUNEDIN, 6th August. A case of some legal significance was decided in the Police Court, when John Walker, a taxi-driver, was convicted of committing a grossly indecent act within public view. The original charge was that of. committing an offence in a licensed motor-car, and was' amended because defendant's driver's license had not at the time been' renewed. The defence raised : was to the effect that the act, to be grossly indecent, must be. intentional and with the object to offend tho public. The Magistrate held that an indecent act could be committed in a vehicle whether closed or open, and sentenced Walker to forty-eight hours' imprisonment, but at counsel's request deferred sentence pending the question of appeal.
