THE "GAZETTE"
INEFFECTIVE PUBLICITY MEDIUM.
. -The lack of publicity afforded to legislative matters through the "Gazette" was pointed out in the House of Representatives yesterday by the Hon. D. iSuddo' (Kaiapoi), who said that the newspapers reprinted only those matters which were of greater interest and importance to the general public, and that legal and other officials who were frequently affected by notices in the "Gazette were unable to get copies. Failing other provision, he suggested that at least a copy of tho "Gazette" should be posted in every Courthouse. Mr. G. W. Forbes (Hurunui) further referred to the limited circulation and publicity of the "Gazette," and suggested it should be posted conspicuously in the post offices.
The Minister in Charge of tho Government Printing Office (the Hon G J Anderson) .said that the "Gazette" would be forwarded to any hon. member who desired to have it, but he pointed out that it was of no use printing copies unnecessarily. The Government Printing Office was now conducted on commercial" hues, the cost of printing the ."Gazette ' being charged to the Legislative Department.
