TECHNICAL COLLEGE

ITS COMPLETION URGED.

That the Government should > make provision for completing the Wellington Technical College was urged in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. .

Sir John Luke spoke of the needs of the Technical College, and referred to the contribution of £15,000 which had been made towards its cost by, the Wellington City Council. Unlike Auckland, Wellington did not possess a savings-bank, and had no means of making contributions to such institutions as the Technical College. From that point of view, the action of the City Council in giving J815,000 was most generous. He aslced that the Government make sufficient provision for equipping the college with an adequate amount of material.

Mr. W. H. Field (Otaki) supported Sir John Luke's opinions regarding the College. The site was a magnificent one, and he hoped that at an early date \he money would be found for the completion of the building. Mr. A. L. Monteith (Wellington East) urged that better provision should be made for teaching home science at the College. The present "dilapidated, old ramshackle affair with an air-space of 1150 square feet., which did service as a. home science classroom, was to be replaced by one with a capacity o f 765 square feet. The Minister misht be moive-generous and make a big| el - grant than £800 for the new. building
