Recently notice was given in tho House of the Government's intention to reduce . premiums to policyholders ia the State Fire Office by 15 per cent., this being to a certain extent in conformity with the objects of the State Fire Office when it was inaugurated, and a few days later, at a meeting of the Underwriters' Association, it .was decided that insurance companies should fall into line. A prominent insurance man, speaking to a " Post" reporter to-day, remarked that the effect of tFdsa reductions would probably mean a saving to the general public of something between a quarter of a million and £280,000 per year, thus leaving Hiat amount free " for ' investment and employment in other directions.
