The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. The St. John's College Trust Bill was read a third time, put through its final stages, and passed.

The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. T. M. Wilford) gave notice of his intention to ask the Minister of Public Works whether he will define the position of the Government in. respect to the proposed contract for the TaurangaWaihi railway with relation to (1) American and Canadian traders and the tariff and preferential tariff; (2) the question of loading to the full extent of American and foreign tenderers with the tariff and preferential tariff on all imports; and (3)_ the exchange rate fit the time of quoting as against the time of delivery; .also, whether he thinks it advisable to call for tenders from a. country whose exchange is adverse to New Zealand and the Mother Country Mr. P. A. de la Perrelle "(Awarua) gave notice to ask the Minister of Mines whether a geological survey of Southland will be carried out with the object of full development of the mineral resources of that part of the Dominion.

Mr. H. E. Holland (Buller) asked the Minister of Education if he would lay before the House all correspondence that has passed'between the Administration of Samoa and the Government in respect to indentured and free labour.

The Minister replied that- he would bring the matter under the notice of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
